Picture of Heavy Luggage Safety Technology being deployed

CrossTech, in collaboration with Station Innovation Zone and Network Rail will install the Escalate system within the passenger subway. The system is a machine vision-based solution which uses a ceiling mounted camera and edge-based processing to identify passengers carrying unsafe items and then triggers a floor standing digital display to turn on and deliver a personalised visual and audio warning message. Currently, the system is trained to detect large luggage, buggies and prams and bikes (in scope items) as passengers approach a staircase. Once detected, the floor standing digital display illuminates with a picture of the items in scope and the message on a digital screen. The message instructs the passengers with the items in scope to use the lift instead. The sign also provides an audio warning.
